What About Planting Design?

Successful planting most often starts with a well thought out plan.

Planting design follows a similar approach to a full garden design but only involves the soft elements. A qualified designer will be experienced in working out which combinations work together. It’s all about finding the right balance and selecting the right plants that will thrive in the conditions in your garden to create the desired aesthetic effect. Carefully considering maintenance schedules are also the key to success with gardens being constantly evolving and dynamic spaces.

Plants that give interest across the seasons are very valuable. For instance, those that are long flowering or have evergreen foliage. But equally as important are those that give surprising bursts of colour even if they are short lived. Foliage shape and texture are as important a consideration in order to create successful schemes. Considering year round interest not creates a beautiful space for you to enjoy across all seasons but can also support a variety of wildlife with a careful selection of beneficial plants.

My Approach

My goal is to create a design that is unique to you and your brief. Creating spaces for you to enjoy and relax.

I hold a Professional Garden Design Diploma from The Cotswold Gardening School achieving a Distinction and have obtained a wealth of plant knowledge gained from working at a wholesale nursery that supplies plants to garden designers.

For inspiration I tend to look towards the wild. The relationship between mosses and lichens growing on a gnarly old branch, the distribution of ferns growing in between cracks on a damp rock face or flowers and grasses sweeping across a meadow. These patterns and associations are often the starting point for the most wonderful designs.

I am passionate about creating designs that are sustainable and work with nature and the good news is, whatever space you have and whatever your preferred garden style, be it formal, urban, country or naturalistic, there are ways to increase biodiversity and support more wildlife coming into the garden.
